Unveiling Creativity: The Art of Conversation is the new exhibit at the Front Porch Gallery in Carlsbad. This exhibit, running March 20^th- May 15^th, will explore art as an ongoing process of creation, from when an artist first gathers moments of inspiration for a new piece to the time when a viewer responds to the artwork. When viewers respond to art, they co-create a new conversation and that experience is art in and of itself.

A range of mediums will be represented:  collage, fiber, assemblage, and painting. Gallery Program Director Cathy Carey says “We invite the community to participate in many thought provoking ways and will offer opportunities for making, discussing, viewing and collecting the exhibit. It is always a plus when collectors appreciate the artwork presented by giving pieces a new home!”

The artists in the show were selected by requesting local art guilds to nominate three artists each to represent their organizations. Five individual artists were also chosen to round out the show. “Our partners in the exhibit are: San Dieguito Art Guild, North County Society of Fine Arts, Escondido Gallery, Palomar Hand Weavers Guild at AGSEM and COAL Carlsbad Oceanside Art League. Local poets were also invited to submit poets to represent their organizations by being nominated by Dr. Marit Anderson of Awaken the Artist Within, Robt O’Sullivan Schleith of Poets INC, and Danny Salzhandler of the Full Moon Poetry Slam at the La Paloma.  Selected poets will be invited to read at the reception.”

Unveiling Creativity: The Art of Conversation will explore art as an ongoing process of creation, from when an artist first gathers moments of inspiration for a new piece to the time when a viewer responds to the artwork. When viewers respond to art, they co-create a new conversation and that experience is art in and of itself. Take part in the conversation by attending a Docent Led Tour May 3 from 1:00 to 3:00. Several of the artists will be on hand to describe their process, the meaning behind their work and you can experience first hand how art creates conversations with viewers.” The Front Porch gallery has a community art making table, and will have materials out for people to make conversational Artist Trading Cards (ATC’s). The community is encouraged to start an anonymous conversation, make a beautiful image, or have some fun writing a poem, to leave for the next visitors!
