An immersive art and nature experience, our intimate docent-led tour covers the art and architecture of founder and artist James Hubbell amidst the surrounding unspoiled natural beauty of the Santa Ysabel landscape. Be inspired as nature and art truly dance together as one.
Join us for an engaging afternoon featuring a casual cocktail hour, where you’ll enjoy insightful presentations on art history and architecture from some of our valued creative collaborators. Guests will have the chance to connect and discuss these topics while exploring the beautiful grounds. Standard 90-minute docent led tour included.

June 7th Dave Hampton historian and author of San Diego’s Craft Revolution: From Post-War Modern to California Design will present on James Hubbell’s early years in the San Diego art community
Dave Hampton is an author, independent curator and collector based in San Diego. His research is focused on mid-twentieth century craft, design and visual art in California and the Southwest, particularly within the San Diego art and architecture community. His essay “Art From the End of the Line” appeared in the 2007 Hubbell Press publication Seeds of Art and was followed by a series of articles about San Diego’s postwar art scene for the KPBS Culture Lust blog.

Located on 10 acres of oak woodlands near Julian, California, the Ilan-Lael compound encompasses living quarters, studio and gallery spaces, gardens and a public building for the Ilan-Lael Foundation. Tours are approximately 2 hours long and limited to small groups to enhance your experience. Enjoy the on-site gallery and gift shop offering Hubbell art, books, hand-crafted artisan items, and more. Ilan-Lael is located just over an hour from San Diego and about 2 1/2 hours from Los Angeles.

Parking:
Parking for this tour is at Ilan-Lael foundation, 930 Orchard Lane, Julian, CA 92036. Driving and parking directions will be emailed upon receipt of the tour purchase.
Accessibility:
Due to the historic nature of the private home, not all buildings have ramps and handicap access. This tour is not recommended for those who have difficulty walking. Paths are not paved, and some buildings are accessible only by steps and/or stairs.
Reservations are required.
