Open Call for In Situ: La Jolla, An Art Installation At The Design Showroom

About the Exhibition

An installation at Unscripted Spaces interior design showroom is part of the SDAD Activated Spaces program.

Activated Spaces invites local visual artists to apply for In Situ: La Jolla, a curated installation inside Unscripted Spaces, an ultra-high-end modern interior design showroom in La Jolla Village.

This exhibition places artwork directly within a fully realized residential setting rather than a traditional gallery environment. Selected artists will present their work inside a two-story luxury showroom designed as livable apartments, offering a unique opportunity for artists to demonstrate how art functions within thoughtfully designed interiors.

We are accepting all genres and mediums. Painting, photography, sculpture, textile, mixed media, and experimental work are all welcome. The goal is to create a layered environment in dialogue with a refined, ultra modern space. Work that introduces depth, material presence, texture, and strong visual identity is encouraged.

This project emphasizes exposure to interior designers. The opening reception and follow-up events will intentionally bring local designers into the space to meet artists and explore opportunities for collaboration, placement, and sales.

Artists of all backgrounds and identities are welcome.

Additional Opportunity: First Friday Art Walk Pop-Up Installation

We offer additional 6 display spaces for a separate outdoor pop-up installation during the April 3 First Friday La Jolla Village Art Walk. This street-level display is independent from the interior exhibition and offers additional public visibility.

Artists may express interest in the pop-up installation during submission at no additional cost. Only six spots are available. Selected artists are responsible for setting up and taking down their outdoor display on April 3.

All San Diego Artists are encouraged to apply!

Pro-Artist Sales Model:

Artists retain 90% of artwork sales. The remaining 10% supports the programs of San Diego Art Directory.
