By the end of this three-day workshop, you’ll have a richly layered mixed-media collage that blends personal imagery with expressive painting. Built from your own photographs (or materials you have on hand), your final piece will reflect both intuitive mark-making and thoughtful composition.

But we don’t start with the image. We build toward it.

The process begins with abstract painting. You’ll explore expressive techniques using color, line, and texture to create a spontaneous and emotionally-charged foundation. From there, you’ll learn how to integrate photographic elements and found materials, using them to shape and define the image as it emerges.

Along the way, you’ll learn:

How to paint abstractly and expressively to create a dynamic base
Techniques for proper collage adhesion
Strategies for layering, editing, and building visual depth
How to respond to the work as it evolves, making decisions in the moment

This workshop encourages experimentation, play, and personal storytelling through materials. No prior experience with collage or painting is necessary, just a willingness to explore and follow the process wherever it leads.
