Open Board Positions:
The Director of Marketing leads SDAD’s outreach efforts to raise awareness about our organization, our members, and the arts community throughout San Diego County. This role involves promoting SDAD across relevant networks, amplifying the “In The Art Scene” podcast, and attracting new members to the San Diego Artist Network. You’ll also seek and respond to PR opportunities, recruit advertisers for SDAD, SDAN, and the podcast, and organize volunteers to support the Marketing Committee’s work.
The ideal candidate has marketing, sales, or business experience, a strong passion for arts and culture, and is willing to commit at least 8 hours per month. Prior nonprofit board experience is a plus.
The Director of Business & Community Partnerships plays a critical role in bridging the arts and business communities across San Diego County — fostering collaborations and creating opportunities for art professionals to work with local businesses. In this position, you’ll identify and respond to business and networking opportunities, connect with trade organizations, and — in collaboration with the Program and Marketing Committees — help design and promote programs that bring together art-service providers and the local business sector. You’ll also recruit volunteers for your committee.
The ideal candidate is outgoing, business-savvy, enjoys networking, and can commit a minimum of 8 hours per month, including attending online and in-person events across the region.
The Director of Memberships serves as the main liaison between SDAD and our artist members, the core of our community. This role involves onboarding new members, updating members on how their listings perform, and helping them understand the benefits offered by SDAN. You’ll design and implement strategies to engage members, encourage renewals or upgrades, and build a sense of community and value around membership. You’ll also recruit volunteers to support the Membership Committee.
The ideal candidate is personable, passionate about arts and culture, and ideally has marketing, sales, HR or business experience; nonprofit board experience is a plus. Commitment is at least 8 hours per month.
The Director of Business Development leads SDAD’s efforts to build sustainable revenue streams that support our mission and expand our impact. This board member identifies strategic opportunities for growth, cultivates partnerships with businesses and donors, and oversees fundraising initiatives across the organization.
Key responsibilities include developing annual fundraising goals, guiding sponsorship strategies, and helping create programs and services that generate earned income. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, well-connected, and passionate about strengthening the arts ecosystem through resource development.
This role is integral to ensuring SDAD’s long-term viability and enabling us to deliver innovative programs that uplift local artists and cultural organizations.
The Director of Programs provides strategic leadership and oversight for SDAD’s core initiatives, ensuring that each program advances our mission, supports our creative community, and delivers measurable impact. This board member works closely with the team, partners, and community stakeholders to shape program vision, evaluate effectiveness, and guide new program development.
Responsibilities include helping design program frameworks, advising on implementation, reviewing outcomes, and ensuring SDAD programs remain artist-centered, equitable, and community-responsive.
The ideal candidate brings experience in arts administration, program design, community engagement, or cultural strategy. This role helps SDAD stay innovative, relevant, and aligned with the needs of the region’s creative workforce.
The Co-Treasurer supports SDAD’s financial stewardship by working closely with the Treasurer to oversee the organization’s fiscal health, budgeting, and financial reporting. This role helps review monthly financial statements, track revenues and expenses, and ensure SDAD maintains strong financial practices aligned with nonprofit standards.
Responsibilities include assisting with annual budget preparation, supporting grant and donor reporting needs, advising on financial strategies, and helping maintain transparency with the board and community. The Co-Treasurer may also step in when the Treasurer is unavailable, ensuring continuity in financial oversight.
The ideal candidate has experience in finance, accounting, bookkeeping, or nonprofit financial management. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accountability and sustainability are essential. Commitment is approximately 6–8 hours per month.
The Legal Advisor serves in an advisory capacity, providing legal insight and guidance to SDAD’s board and leadership as needed. This role supports best practices in governance, compliance, contracts, and risk management, while remaining separate from formal voting authority.
The Legal Advisor may review key agreements, offer general legal guidance, and help SDAD identify when outside counsel is required. This role does not replace retained legal counsel and does not involve routine legal representation.
The ideal candidate is a licensed attorney with experience in nonprofit, business, or arts-related law who is interested in supporting SDAD’s mission through strategic guidance. Time commitment is flexible and typically project-based.
